Scopely is looking for a Principal Combat Designer to join our unannounced project in Spain on a remote basis. At Scopely, we care deeply about what we do and want to inspire play, every day - whether in our work environments alongside our talented colleagues or through our deep connections with our communities of players.
We are a global team of game lovers who are developing, publishing, and innovating the mobile games industry, connecting millions of people around the world daily.
We are in the early stages of development on an ambitious, unannounced, cross-platform Strategy / MMO featuring a well-known IP.
You have the opportunity to join a highly experienced team to make a lasting impact on one of the next big releases.
What You Will Do
- Use your deep understanding of combat systems combined with a strong analytical ability to create an engaging and high-performing user experience.
- Take ownership of our combat systems, shaping features, mechanics, and content direction for the game.
- Come up with new, engaging ways to advance the game’s meta and excite our players, including:
- Take ownership of the design and balancing of dedicated combat systems.
- Work closely with our Creative Director to advance and grow the team.
- Collaborate with Lead Design and Product when designing new features.
- Align with our dev teams to ensure the accurate implementation of designs.
- Playtest the game, continuously pushing for improvements to existing designs.
- Design the combat meta within PvE and PvP.
- Mentor and grow younger Designers on the team.
- Establish processes and tools with stakeholders from concept design through launch.
- A deep passion for games and for making games.
- 7+ years of experience as a Systems or Game Designer.
- Outstanding understanding of combat systems and synergistic mechanics.
- Consistent record of designing and balancing synergistic combat mechanics.
- Track record of crafting immersive gameplay mechanics, systems, and experiences from the initial concept through the prototype phase, with an emphasis on optimizing fun, balance, and player engagement.
- Strong understanding of content distribution.
- Incredible energy and the ambition to create the next blockbuster mass-market game.
- Outstanding organizational agility - the ability to partner with a variety of specialists and personalities to work towards your goals.
- A positive, confident, open-minded, and inspirational attitude.
- Highly proactive and action focused.
- Excel VBA or scripting experience, experience in building simulations.
- Understanding of system-driven player-owned narrative.
- Relevant qualifications in Computing, Maths, Statistics, and/or Economics.
- Solid understanding of event-driven live operations in mobile games.
- Experience in mentoring.
- An avid player of F2P strategy games.
